ANALYSIS
RADIX AIRES MATEUS
Module 1
This is the location for people to sit and have privacy. This is because their back would be facing the main entrance so that they would have been facing the main view (the water). The people entering from the main entrance also won't be interrupting them as they wouldn't be able to fit through the short opening, as it only has a height approximately up to an average adult's thighs. Only babies (ages up to 3) would be able to fit through the short entry. I think this has been created to give this pavilion a sense of privacy even though it is a really exposed structure with openings on all sides.

SECOND ENTRANCE
MAIN ENTRANCE
![Aires Mateus Plans and Sections.jpg](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/0f67ce_ab77ba2b96134a3ca62bbd43f43caeb5~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_600,h_235,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_avif,quality_auto/Aires%20Mateus%20Plans%20and%20Sections.jpg)
Through the analysis of the section and floor plan drawing it can be seen that the biggest sphere (green) is the section closest to the water. This shows that it is one of the most important spaces and where most people will stay and enter. The main entrance (blue) sphere is the thinnest and tallest. Showing that it is thin so it draws people to enter it and being at such a tall height that creates an open in the roof it encourages people of any height to enter. Finally, the second smallest sphere and shortest at height (red) is shaped like that as it is only the second entrance and not as many people would enter through there and people would stay in that space to mainly pass through to the other space
Threshold

Privacy Levels
People tend to like sitting in areas where they feel a sense of privacy, so when the arches of the pavilion are at it’s lowest it is a more private space. Whereas areas where it is next to the entry and having a high roof it is considered more of a public space and welcoming. Most of the privacy is located in the centre of the pavilion near the point that nearly touches the ground but is just floating there. This is because this is where the three spheres that make up the interior connect. The section where people are able to look out onto the water is a public space as it is opened to the wide public but it is also considered private considered to the rest of the pavilion because one of the sides (the one near the main entrance) is so low and it makes the space seem cut off the one side but still connected

Activities within threshold
People would sit at the edge where the stairs are at the pavilion. This has been created near the steps so that people can enjoy the water view and also enjoy the warmth within the space when the light reflects into the space. There has also been edges created so that people can lean on the pavilion and sit on the sides as well. This is so that they can enjoy the space. Although there isn't really any wall within the pavilion but the dome like curves create a sense of privacy for people to do activities such as sitting, standing and leaning. The lowest height is low so that people can't walk through it to get to the water side so that they're forced to walk around the whole pavilion to get to the water view. This has been done to create a sense of privacy for those who want to sit there and to allow people to experience the whole pavilion

Light bouncing off the ground and reflecting onto the steel structure to create light within the space
Light bouncing off the water and onto the steel structure to create light inside the pavilion
Light coming in through the top of the pavilion
Sound and Light waves
The sound waves can bounce off the steel structure and enter into the structure. However, because the structure is so open overall the sound would bounce out quickly.
The light waves bounce around in the pavilion as the structure is steel. Mainly on the lake side. The light is able to bounce off the water and onto the top of the roof, as it is steel it would reflect back inside the pavilion. From that side, the water would also have light reflecting off it making it bright which would give that side extra light. In the main entrance, light can also enter easily as the top roof of the pavilion is opened so light can easily enter and once again reflect off the steel which would make the interior brighter naturally
Circulation

Shortest pathway
The shortest path that visitors can take is entering from the main entrance then walking to the second entry then entering the third threshold which is where the water view is then crawling back to the main entrance. Even though the visitor would have to crawl under the lowest curve to get back to the main entrance it is the quickest route. My interpretation is that it has been created in this way so that the visitor would have to enter through the main entrance and experience the whole pavilion before exiting. The way that it is designed with the point near the middle of the pavilion in a way draws the visitors to walk around the whole pavilion.
Movement
The flow within the pavilion is continuous because of the round and circular forms. It makes the whole pavilion flow as a whole also because it gives a sense of public and private space at the same time. The entrances into the pavilion are also big so it allows the space to appear big which also helps with the free flow within the pavilion
![13.03.2021_Make2D_Circulation [Wix].jpg](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/0f67ce_51f4b02d55bf47048c63b570d508d940~mv2.jpg/v1/crop/x_0,y_1463,w_1396,h_674/fill/w_342,h_165,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_avif,quality_auto/13_03_2021_Make2D_Circulation%20%5BWix%5D.jpg)
Traffic Flow
The traffic flow would be highest at the entrances and at the water side of the pavilion. This is because it is one of the main elements of the pavilion and visitors would enjoy going there to look at the water and to sit on the side where the lowest point is.
